Welcome to the Wood Alchemist.

Our Mission

The Wood Alchemist is situated in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and draws its inspiration from the long tradition of fine furniture making in the area, including line-and-berry inlay and painted furniture using Pennsylvania Dutch folk art motifs.

We believe in employing sustainable practices and techniques in producing our furniture, which minimize the impact on the environment. This includes using non-toxic finishes and locally grown hardwoods, such as oak (white and red), black walnut, maple, black cherry, and ash.

Come by and visit. We’d be happy to show you around.

About

The Wood Alchemist cut his teeth in the cabinetry program at Thaddeus Stevens College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, under the tutelage of inlay artist and master furniture maker Steve Latta and cabinetry guru Rob Tobias. We are particularly drawn to a “fusion” style that incorporates decorative inlay (borrowing from the line-and-berry motifs and techniques of the 17th- and 18th-century Chester County Quakers) and the simple, elegant lines of Jugendstil, neo-Gothic, and the Arts and Crafts furniture styles. We specialize in unique, bespoke furniture and will work in any style the client desires.
